Patroller Committee Weekly Communication

Week Ending: April 16, 2005

The purpose of this communication is to provide an activities update to the membership of the Patroller Committee and interested patrollers as it relates to changes that are taking place which may affect our future involvement as patrollers, and the direction of our purportedly membership driven organization.

About PC Team Charter

The PC Team is the acting leadership for the Patroller Committee. The PC Team continues to refine our charter and actions, but maintains it focus to return NSP to a member driven organization.

The “Back Cross” issue which galvanized membership into forming the Patroller Committee is only a symptom of a bigger issue which the PC Team is addressing.

Patroller Committee Meeting in Detroit- April 23, 24th

The primary focus over the last week was the construction of the agenda for the April 23, 24th meeting in Detroit. The desired outcome of this meeting has been defined as follows:

  1. Identify region/division focal points & actions as needed to obtain the desired NSP mandate.
  2. Share and develop information, identify plans and issues, solicit support & volunteers, construct a plan of approach moving forward.
  3. Draft appropriate post meeting communications.
This meeting is drawing a very diverse group of over 20 patrollers from Eastern, Central, Rocky Mountain, and Pacific Northwest Divisions.

If you are interested in attending or want more information on this meeting, please register on NationalSkiPatrol.org.

Other Avenues
The PC Team has initiated numerous actions and formed a number of teams which will discussed and expanded during the first Patroller Committee meeting in Detroit, all with the purpose of returning NSP to a member driven organization.

Audit Reports

The audit reports received from the National Office have been reviewed. A request for additional information has been submitted to the National Office.

Nominations for National Board Seats

Actions speak louder than words! Nominations for open Board of Director seats close on April 30th. The PC Team is seeking and promoting every qualified patroller to consider running for our National Board.

Voice of the Patroller

The best way to have your voice heard is by doing three things.
  1. Continue to communicate your thoughts on the member forum at www.nsp.org.
  2. Register and state your concerns on www.nationalskipatrol.org and to the PC Team
  3. Communicate with your line officers: Section Chief, Region Director, and Division Director.

Central Division has defined four issues that are being developed and will be presented in depth at the up coming national board meeting in June. These issues are: 1) the election process, 2) disconnect with their primary customer, 3) communication and 4) patroller liability. The PC Team is supporting and encouraging this development and the appropriate representation of membership desires.

So make sure your voice is heard by exercising your rights as a paid member. Collectively, we have been silent for to long and it is time to make sure that our voice is heard and that board actions represent the collective desire of membership.

Get the Word Out!

We are building momentum, but we need to keep the word out. As our mindset shifts from winter activities to summer activities, it is critical that we continue to communicate and emphasize the issues at hand. The National organization is banking on the fact that interest will die down over the summer so by next fall all that will be left is the majority of the members grumbling about what happened to us now.

Don’t let this trend continue!

Sincerely,
Your PC Team
