Patroller Committee Weekly Communication

Week Ending: June 4, 2005

Purpose

The purpose of this communication is to foster member awareness and to provide a vehicle for the identification of issues which are important to the membership and the resolution of the same to the mutual benefit of the members and the National Ski Patrol.

Critical Divisions are ‘aligned’ with the Patroller Committee

Central Division has completed its resolutions. The Rocky Mountain Division just completed their Divisional meeting and as we understand it, similar resolutions were adopted. Patrollers and leaders from three major NSP Divisions now have adopted resolutions that will be on the table at the National Board meeting later this month. There is a common thread of unity between all three division resolutions focusing on the liability, elections, identity and representation with a common theme of membership feeling increasingly disenfranchised from the National Ski Patrol. These Division resolutions for change are parallel if not aligned with stated PC objectives.

In the coming weeks, the Division Directors from Eastern Division, Central Division, Rocky Mountain Division, are sending their resolutions for change to the National Board. We fully expect these resolutions to go to sub-committee. However, if the Patrollers voice to the Board of Directors is strong enough in calling for action, then anything could happen.

Sometimes it difficult, but remember the importance of keeping your communications with our National Board constructive and respectful when calling for action.

Member Involvement

Last week a direct e-mail was sent to every patroller registered on www.patrollercomittee.org. Within this email was a general update on activities and a call for action. As noted in the update, heightened awareness, concern and calls for action from Patrollers and our line organization across the nation is growing on a daily basis as we count down the days to the June National Board Meeting.

Now is a great opportunity for you to stand up and be heard. Let the board know your concerns, interests and the actions you expect them to take and be sure to let them know that you hold them accountable for the actions of Bill Sachs and Steve Over. You are making a difference, keep the communications flowing to Denver!

Denver, June 2005

Our NSP leadership in the coming weeks are going to have an opportunity to send their desired message to Patrollers at the June NSP Annual Board Meeting that will be held on June 24-25 in Golden, Colorado. We are encouraging all registered National Ski Patrollers to attend this open meeting. This would be a great opportunity to see our leadership in action and understand their perspective and approach to issues of concern to membership.

Did You Know?

The NSP decision to remove the NSP from the Back Cross was made by NSP Leadership in 1997 and not disclosed to membership, and not discovered by membership until early 2005…. What’s next? (See the ‘Did You Know’ section for more information).

What you can do….. and of course Take ‘5’ to Get ‘5’

Also within the PC.org is a very good page of suggestions to answer the question often heard “What can I do?”. Take a few minutes and read this section and get involved. Share what you have learned, pass the word, keep the momentum going. This is your chance to make a difference and have your voice be heard. Take 5 minutes this week to contact 5 other patrollers and get them to register on: www.Patrollercommittee.org. then ask them to contact 5 others.

Sincerely,
Your PC Team
