Who We Are
The Patroller Committee: Who We Are (The PC Team)
The Patroller Committee, founded in 2005, is a group of concerned Patrollers from across the country who were disturbed by the drift of the mission of the National Ski Patrol away from supporting local Patrollers in their service to the skiing public -- to a merely transactional relationship by which National sells training programs and credentials.
We were greatly upset by the loss of identity and shared purpose that has bound Patrollers together for 67 years. We applaud the efforts to promote synergy with other skiing organizations where it benefits the Patroller, but we resist anything that dilutes the ability of the NSP to continue to prosper as an independent organization FOR Patrollers.
We understand the need for National to insulate the organization from liability for the actions of individual Patrollers at local areas, but equal effort needs to be spent to ensure the local Patroller is protected and/or aware of his or her own personal risk.
And finally, we are outraged that the voice of the membership has been or is ignored and if there is no accountability to those in positions of leadership at National.
The Patroller Committee has no secret agenda. It is not controlled by any one clique of Patrollers or one area of the country. It is not seeking power, position or prestige -- only a better future for the NSP.
How we can effect change
The Patroller Committee is willing to work with the line organization to inform Patrollers of the issues, seek consensus of thought, and effect change at the National level within the current structure. However, since Division Directors can be removed from office at the discretion of the National Chairman and since Regions and Sections are no longer even recognized by National as sub units of the NSP, the Patroller Committee will also work outside the line structure to communicate and advocate across Regions and across Divisions.
These are our objectives
The Patroller Committee is truly a grass-roots movement of Patrollers that share a common desire to see a National Ski Patrol where . . .
1. The average Patroller is aware, informed and engaged in the future of the NSP
2. There is a unified membership identity that protects the heritage and brand of the NSP
3. The NSP leadership is responsive and accountable to the membership
4. A new mission statement is developed that reflects the activity of the majority of members
5. The National Board of Directors long-term goals and objectives are fully transparent to membership
6. Dynamic two-way communication between membership, National Chairman and the Board of Directors
is the norm
7. Patrollers receive a fair return for membership dues and understand where the dues are going
8. There is appropriate "separateness" of the interest of the NSP, PSIA and NSAA
9. The NSP champions efforts that provide liability mitigation or insurance coverage for local Patrollers
